VIRGINIA TECH (6-0 SU/4-1 ATS)
at WEST VIRGINIA (2-4 SU/2-4 ATS)
3rd-ranked Va Tech had a bye last week and in their last game two weeks ago they pounded Syracuse 51-7 as -17½ point home favorites. QB Bryan Randall threw for just 88 yards on 6-of-14 passing, but rushed for a 75-yard score and finished with 93 yards on the ground in less than three quarters of play. RB Kevin Jones added 131 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries and DeAngelo Hall returned two punts for scores in the first quarter for the Hokies, who won their first six games for the fifth straight season. When it was all said and done, Tech held edges in total "O" (439-172), first downs (18-6) and rushing yards (337-81). West Virginia also had a bye last week and is coming off a 34-19 home win over Rutgers as -18 point favorites. QB Rasheed Marshall completed 7-of-15 passes for 186 yards and RB Quincy Wilson ran for 177 yards and three touchdowns in the non-cover win. WV dominated the game with edges in total "O" (430-279) and first downs (20-15). Va Tech comes in 11-4-1 ATS the last 15 meetings with WV, including 6-3 the last nine. The Hokies are 3-1 ATS at WV, including 2 shutouts. This is a revenger for Va Tech, who lost 21-18 last season as -7½ point favorites. WV comes in 2-6 ATS as a home dog, but are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games. Opinion: Virginia Tech -13

MARYLAND (5-2 SU/2-4 ATS)
at GEORGIA TECH (4-3 SU/4-2-1 ATS)
Maryland had a bye last week after posting a 33-20 win over Duke two weeks ago as -28 point home chalks. QB Scott McBrien completed 18-of-32 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown, while Josh Allen and Bruce Perry each rushed for 36 yards. Perry also ran for a score, helping the Terrapins record their fifth straight win of the season after starting out the 2003 campaign 0-2. It was a lethargic effort for Maryland as they were outgained in total "O" 392-370 and had deficits in first downs (23-19) and time of possession (36:10 to 23:50). Georgia Tech also had last week off after an impressive 24-7 win at Wake Forest as +3½ point underdogs the previous week. QB Reggie Ball completed 12-of-24 passes for 225 yards and two TD's as Tech won its third consecutive game. RB P.J. Daniels had a good day with 175 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries. It was a dominant effort by the Jackets who held edges in total "O" (429-272), first downs (23-12) and time of possession (33:47 to 26:13). Offensively, Maryland ranks 58th in the land with a 379 ypg average, while Tech ranks 100th with a 310 ypg average. Defensively, it’s a little closer as Maryland comes in ranked 14th in the land in total "D", allowing 294 ypg, while Ga Tech ranks 26th, allowing 323 ypg. Maryland is 5-2 ATS the last seven meetings with Ga Tech and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 appearances on Thursday Night Football. Last year, the Terps won 34-10 as -2 point home chalks. Ga Tech has not fared well after a bye, going just 7-15 ATS the week after a break. However, Maryland has not been a team to back on the road lately as they are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games. In addition, the Ramblin' Wreck is 10-2 ATS as a home 'dog of +1½ or more points when coming off two straight wins. Tech has beaten Auburn and NC State at home this season and are off that upset of Wake Forest last week. Have to side with Georgia Tech in this one.
SELECTION: GEORGIA TECH +2½

RUTGERS (3-4 SU/7-0 ATS)
at TEMPLE (1-6 SU/4-2 ATS)
Rutgers covered again last week (now 7-0 ATS) in a 42-32 home loss to Pitt as +16½ point underdogs. Rutgers fullback Brian Leonard scored four touchdowns, while QB Ryan Hart completed 24-of-52 passes for 384 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. The Scarlet Knights, who fell for the third time in as many games, outgained Pitt in total "O" 516-494. Temple was pounded last week in a 52-14 loss at 2nd-ranked Miami-Fla last week as +32½ point underdogs. QB Mike McGann completed 5-of-11 passes for just 21 yards and RB Jamil Porter rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns for the Owls, who have lost 12 straight to the Hurricanes. Temple was dominated in the game with deficits in total "O" (601-171), first downs (28-6) and time of possession (38:03 to 21:57). Offensively, Rutgers comes in ranked 61st in the land in total "O" with a 374 ypg average, while Temple counters with the 75th rated "O", averaging 352 ypg. On defense, Rutgers comes in ranked 97th, allowing 425 ypg, while the Owls rank 110th, allowing 461 ypg. Note that Temple has allowed an average of 560 ypg in their last three outings. The home team in this series is 6-1 ATS the last seven meetings and Rutgers comes in 0-3 ATS the last three trips to Temple, losing by an average score of 45-13. Last year Temple won at Rutgers 20-17, but did not cover as -7½ point favorites. However, it is hard to fathom the fact that Temple, with only one win this season, is favored in this game. Rutgers trailed Pitt last week 42-7 at one point, but showed their ability on offense as they outscored Pitt 25-0 the rest of the way. At 7-0 ATS on the season, Rutgers seems the logical choice here.
SELECTION: RUTGERS +5

NORTH CAROLINA (1-6 SU/5-2 ATS)
at CLEMSON (4-3 SU/4-2 ATS)
North Carolina hung tough last week in a 33-31 home loss to Arizona State as +7 point underdogs. QB Darian Durant was 13-of-23 passing for 167 yards with one touchdown in the loss. Jarwarski Pollock was the leading receiver for North Carolina with four catches for 98 yards. Despite the close score, Arizona State dominated Carolina with edges in total "O" (603-320) and first downs (29-18). Clemson is off a tough 17-15 road loss at NC State last Thursday Night as +5 point underdogs. QB Charlie Whitehurst completed 23-of-37 passes for 196 yards and an interception. WR Kevin Youngblood caught five balls for 47 yards, while RB Duane Coleman led the ground attack with 51 yards on 11 carries. Clemson outgained NC State in total "O" 323-283 and held a 127-70 edge in rushing. Offensively, North Carolina comes in ranked 60th in the nation, averaging 377 ypg, while Clemson ranks 55th, with a 383 ypg average. On defense, it's a different story though, as the Tar Heels rank almost dead last in the nation (116th), allowing 498 ypg, while the Clemson "D" has been solid, ranking 22nd in the nation with a 322 ypg average. North Carolina won't be able to run the ball on that Clemson "D”, which allowed 45, 53, and 70 yards rushing to Georgia Tech, Virginia and NC State, respectively. The favorite in this series is an impressive 12-4-1 ATS the last 17 meetings and the SU winner is 15-2-1 ATS as well. Clemson is just 2-5 ATS the last seven meetings, but won last year 42-12 as -10 point road chalks. Cannot recommend anything but Clemson in this one. Lay the points.
SELECTION: CLEMSON -13

IOWA STATE (2-5 SU/1-5 ATS)
at NEBRASKA (6-1 SU/4-3 ATS)
The Cyclones continued to reel last week in a 40-21 home loss to Texas as +19 point underdogs. QB Cris Love was 6-for-16 for 49 yards for the Iowa State, who lost their fifth straight matchup against the Longhorns. Their other QB Austin Flynn connected on 5-of-18 passes for 123 yards and a score, and also ran for 43 yards and two two-point conversions, as Iowa State lost their fifth straight game. The Cyclones were dominated in the game with deficits in total "O" (578-277), first downs (28-16) and time of possession (37:26 to 22:34). 11th-ranked Nebraska bounced back from their loss at Missouri two weeks ago with a resounding 48-12 home win over Texas A&M as -10 point chalks. QB Jammal Lord rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns and David Horne and Josh Davis each added a rushing touchdown for the Cornhuskers, who were off a 41-24 loss at Missouri. Nebraska held edges in total "O" (384-244), first downs (21-15) and time of possession (33:59 to 26:01). Iowa State comes in ranked 78th in the nation in total "O" with a 351 ypg average, while Nebraska ranks 69th (363 ypg). But that shouldn't matter much because this game will be decided by the defenses. Iowa State ranks a paltry 108th in the land in total "D", yielding 458 ypg, while Nebraska sports the nation's 2nd ranked stop unit, allowing just 255 ypg. Nebraska also ranks number-one in the nation in turnover margin. Iowa State has not fared well against Nebraska, going 2-13 SU and 5-9-1 ATS the last 15 meetings. Iowa State has been outscored 170-14 in the first half alone in the last four visits to Lincoln. The home team in this series is 9-2 ATS the last 11 meetings and the 'Huskers are playing with revenge after last years 36-14 loss at Iowa State as +1 point dogs, the first loss to the Cyclones since 1992. Nebraska, with revenge, should roll in this one. Lay the points.
SELECTION: NEBRASKA -23½

USC (6-1 SU/5-2 ATS)
at WASHINGTON (4-3 SU/2-4-1 ATS)
The 5th-ranked Trojans are off a 45-14 dismantling of Notre Dame as -8½ point road chalks. QB Matt Leinart completed 26-of-34 passes for a career-high 351 yards and four touchdowns. The Trojans, who beat Notre Dame, 44-13 at the Coliseum last year, earned their first win in South Bend since 1997. The USC offense gained 340 yards in the opening half and carried a 28-14 lead into the locker room. When it was all said and done, USC held edges in total "O" (554-277) and first downs (29-17). Washington pulled the upset last week in a 38-17 win at 22nd-ranked Oregon State as +10 point underdogs. QB Cody Pickett completed 19-of-40 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns for the Huskies, who snapped a two-game slide and beat Oregon State for the 25th time in the last 27 meetings. Charles Frederick finished with 101 yards on four punt returns, 54 yards on three kickoff returns and caught nine passes for 216 yards to set a school record with 371 all-purpose yards. Washington was outgained in total "O" 390-374, but capitalized on four Oregon State turnovers (1 fumble, 3 interceptions). USC enters this one with the 26th rated "O" in the land with a 426 ypg average, while the Huskies rank 42nd with a 404 ypg average. On defense, USC ranks 35th (334 ypg), while Washington ranks 30th (328 ypg). USC ranks 12th in the nation in turnover margin, while Washington ranks 90th in the land. USC is 7-3 ATS the last ten meetings with the Huskies and 14-5 ATS when playing on artificial turf against conference foes. Washington comes in on a current 4-11-1 ATS run in their last 16 games over all. The 'dog in this series is 12-4-1 the last 17 meetings. However, the Trojans won last year 41-21 as -7½ point home favorites. USC has a very balanced offensive attack (average 208 rush yards and 315 pass yards last two weeks) and should continue to keep rolling in this one. Can't read too much into Washington's win at Oregon State last week as the Beavers basically self-destructed.
SELECTION: USC -10

TROY STATE (4-3 SU/3-2 ATS)
at VIRGINIA (4-3 SU/4-3 ATS)
Troy State is off a 21-10 win over Florida-International last week in a non-lined affair. The Trojans were led by RB DeWhitt Betterson's 157 yards on 34 carries, both career highs. Troy State rolled up 424 yards total offense and 204 yards on the ground while picking up 21 first downs, 12 of which were on the ground. QB Aaron Leak passed for 220 yards, completing 12 of 22 attempts and tossing one interception. Leak's 22 pass attempts and 12 completions both marked career highs as well. Leak also rushed for 44 yards on 15 carries. Virginia dropped a tough 19-14 home decision to Florida State last week but covered as +8½ point underdogs. QB Matt Schaub completed 39-of-53 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns for the Cavaliers, who were hampered by two turnovers and a key miscue on third down late in the game. Virginia had deficits in total "O" (385-321), first downs (18-17) and time of possession (37:12 to 22:48). Offensively, Troy State ranks a mere 104th in the nation (298 ypg), while the Cavs come in ranked 65th with a 369 ypg average. Defensively, Troy State has an edge as they rank 49th in the country, allowing 356 ypg, which is not bad considering they have faced the likes of Kansas State, Minnesota, UAB, Marshall and Nebraska. In contrast, Virginia ranks 70th in the nation in defense, allowing 376 ypg. Troy State owns wins over UAB and Marshall this season and are 6-3 ATS in their last 9 lined games. Virginia counters with a 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS mark when facing 1-A Independents and are also 17-8 ATS off a loss, but they could be a little "flat" in this game, coming off Florida State last week. Take the points.
SELECTION: TROY STATE +22

at INDIANA (1-6 SU/1-4-1 ATS)
The 8th-ranked Buckeyes rebounded last week with a 19-10 home win over 9th-ranked Iowa as -3 point favorites. In a game dominated by special teams and defense, QB Craig Krenzel was Ohio State's leading rusher with 20 yards on 14 carries. WISCONSIN (6-2 SU/4-4 ATS)
at NORTHWESTERN (3-4 SU/4-2-1 ATS)
Wisky suffered a let-down last week in a 26-23 home loss to Purdue as +2½ point underdogs. QB Jim Sorgi left the game in the third quarter with a left knee injury, one week after he was choked by Ohio State linebacker Robert Reynolds in the Badgers' 17-10 win over the defending national champion Buckeyes. Sorgi, who was helped off the field in this one, also left last week's contest. He was 6-of-9 for 118 yards and an interception before leaving. Backup Matt Schabert was 5-of-9 for 78 yards in his place. The Badgers were outplayed in every facet of the game with deficits in total "O" (477-293), first downs (27-12) and time of possession (36:24 to 23:36).
